Name:
The name of this organization will be the Malawi Library and Information Consortium,
hereinafter called MALICO.
Purpose:
MALICO combines its talents and resources to promote and deliver library and information services for Malawi and the global community. This institutional membership organization participates fully in the acquisition and delivery of relevant electronic resources. MALICO offers leadership for library cooperation, training and development, mechanisms for improved access to information and a capacity for members to respond to the information needs of the country.
Members:
The Library Information Manager of each member institution, or in the absence of a library manager, the
individual designated with library responsibilities.
Rights and Privileges:
A voting member of MALICO shall have satisfied their subscription dues.
Dues:
The annual dues set by the MALICO Council for each member institution shall satisfy all subscription requirements.
Officers:
Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary and Treasurer. Term shall be 2 years; officers may not serve in one office
for more than 2 successive terms. Elected officers shall take office at the close of business at the final meeting in the
calendar year.
Duties:
The duties of the Chair shall be to call meetings, set the agenda for the meetings, preside over meetings,
and represent MALICO at meetings as required.
The duties of the Vice-Chair shall be to serve as Chair of the Constitution Committee and serve as Chair whenever the Chair is not able to do so, and other responsibilities as assigned by the Chair.
The duties of the Secretary shall be to prepare and distribute the agenda and minutes of the meetings, maintain attendance and voting information and distribute Constitution.
The duties of the Treasurer shall be to administer MALICO’s finances, and assist in the preparation and reporting of the budget.
Elections:
Elections will be presided by the returning officer at a general meeting of the membership. Two nominations
will be received for each available position. Nominations will be accepted from the floor. The election will be held by secret ballot.
The Constitution developed by the Lawyer when MALICO was registered as a Trust in 2004 amplified the above conditions.
